FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION
With funding from the European Union, ERB works in partnership with FAO in the implementation of projects to strengthen the nutritional capacity and food security of vulnerable households in Burundi. In the implementation of its Food Security and Nutrition program, ERB is expanding its intervention areas in the provinces of Karuzi, Ruyigi, Rutana, Makamba. Over the past four years, ERB has shown remarkable results and impacts with the introduction of the Resilience Fund approach for the empowerment of food and nutrition insecure households. This approach has the merit of ensuring the sustainable empowerment of food-secure beneficiary families.
In four years, the main achievements of the PROACT Project in Karuzi province are as follows
had been provided with access to the Selected Maize and Bean Seeds
distributed to 1000 poor families
as beneficiaries of mushroom cultivation
RESILIENCE AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
ERB in partnership with various partners such as CORDAID, FAO, the Government of Burundi projects funded by the World Bank is implementing projects for environmental protection, resilience and climate change. This program started in 2005. At the beginning, interventions were limited to the production and planting of forest and agro-forestry seedlings for reforestation and watershed management.
Since 2018, the projects of this programme have expanded to include climate resilience and reduction of the negative effects of climate change. Our interventions have focused in the provinces of Rutana, Cankuzo, Makamba. Bururi, Karuzi, Ngozi and Kayanza. Very recently, the provinces of Cibitoke and Bubanza are extending the list of provinces benefiting from our interventions.
